Friendship Dinner with Lecturers
On December 18, 2015, the academy and education unit of the Mekong Dialogue Institute (MDI) organized 9th friendship dinner at Icon Professional Building in purpose to build the relationship and cooperation for discussion, sharing, exchange ideas and experiences on the quality of education in present and future. There were 23 participants attended in the event such as lecturers and government officials from various institutes namely Beltei International University, Buddhist Pedagogy, Cambodian Mekong University, Department of higher education, Field Support Officer (Education), Group research education, Institute of National Education, International University, Norton University, Pannasastra University of Cambodia, Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Royal Academy of Cambodia, Royal University of Phnom Penh, and S.V.V Success Group Co., LTD.
Mr. Hakan, delivered welcome speech to the lecturers that the education is very importance for society and the core strategy of education has two wings as scientific education-skill and spiritual education-virtual. Moreover, there were three interesting topics focused on the education of Cambodia were shared by lecturers from different Universities. First topic was presented by Prof. Son Chanthe on Higher Education Policies with two main points are the evolution of higher education policies in the past and the trend of higher education policies in Cambodia. Second topic on the quality of education was shared by Prof.Dr. Kouy Sokean. He mentioned that education is based on four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. Third topic is about the Philosophy of Education was presented by Prof.Dr Pan Vutha. He said that behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs-a philosophy of education-that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher’s role, and what should be taught and by what methods.
After finished the presentation session representative of participated lecturers in friendship dinner impressed that the event was a good gathering and we have learnt from each other especially education of Cambodia and our future contribution to promote education in order to make good human resources while now ASEAN community is going to start at the end of this year. Then, all participants enjoyed dinner with fruitful sharing and discussion about the quality of education of Cambodia from their own perspective. Moreover, they have thinking about future cooperation and contribution among them and with MDI in order to improve the quality of education in Cambodia. In this gathering, MDI has distributed notebooks with the key messages about the interfaith co-existence in Cambodia and the Love and Tolerance magazine which contents about religion and society, Cambodian tradition on tolerance and co-existence, the necessity for dialogue, Gulen’s interfaith initiatives, Gulen’s approaches on education, and so on.
